Hi everyone. Aiden here with E Trailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at this shackle mount from Bulletproof Hitches. It's gonna just slot into the channel on your Bulletproof Hitches ball mount and allow you a place to attach a recovery strap when you're off-roading. Let's check it out. Now, it comes with everything you need to get it attached to your ball mount.
It does require you have one of these ball mounts already because it's really just the attachment and the two mounting pins on the side. Those use a standard 5/8-inch diameter pin and while you can mount it up and down the adjustable ball mount, it's recommended that you have it in this tallest position so it's pulling more straight on with the hitch. As far as how much weight it can pull, it's rated for 36,000 pounds. Now, just keep in mind, that's what this is rated for, not necessarily the ball amount that you're mounting this to or your vehicle. So just keep that in mind as you're using this.
Now, the shackle itself is 1 and 1/4 inch in diameter, very strong and heavy duty and the opening here is quite large. And to get everything hooked up, the top pin here can unthread, opening this up. Now, straight out of the box, it's going to be a little bit stiff probably. So if you have something like a screwdriver that you can just poke into that hole and help to give you a little bit more leverage, it can be quite useful as we unthread this and open it up. Now over time, this will probably become a lot easier but again, just right out of the box, it's going to be a little bit difficult probably.
Now, at this point, whether you have a traditional toe strap or a kinetic rope, it's gonna hook up pretty much the exact same with the looped end feeding in through the shackle. Line it back up and take our pin and thread it back in with this now attached through the shackle. Now, one thing I will say about this is that a lot of people might just use their ball mount for the same purpose of recovery but it's not always the best way to go because obviously, this isn't enclosed. Whereas in the shackle here, there's no chance of this coming out. And this is purposely designed for the intent of using a recovery strap, whereas your ball mount is not.
So generally, this going to be a safer and easier option for this purpose. Now, on the whole attachment itself, it's going to be a black powder coated steel and since we're really not having any metal on metal contact here, I imagine that powder coat's going to last a lot longer and help this resist rust and corrosion over time. With the pins that attach this, those are going to be a zinc finish so that's gonna help them resist rust and corrosion over time as well. And that's really all there is to it. It's a very straightforward product and it mounts up perfectly in your existing Bulletproof Hitches ball mount. So if you've got one of those and you're already maybe using your ball mount for the purposes of recovery, I definitely recommend getting the attachment for it. It's gonna be safer and it's gonna be more secure with this enclosed in the shackle there. And then whenever you're done using it, you can just unpin it, throw it in the back of your truck and have it ready for next time. But that'll do it for a look at the Bulletproof Hitches shackle attachment. Thanks for watching.
